HISTORY OF THE ALUMNI CHARITY CHALLENGE

Mason was one of seven of the original schools invited by VCU to participate in the 1st alumni charity challenge at Hardywood in 2013. It rained that year so attendance was small, but since then the Alumni Charity Challenge has collected over 94 tons of canned goods with the support of over 30+ colleges from in-state and out-of-state. Feed More collects, prepares and distributes food to neighbors in need across 29 counties and five cities in Central Virginia. This year 41 schools will be represented and we have the goal to collectively raise 150,000 pounds of food (75 tons).

Despite the rain in 2013, Mason alumni embarrassed VCU alumni and then did it again in 2014 on their own turf in Richmond (RVA) by donating nearly twice as much food as all other local alumni chapters combined, In 2015, 2016 & 2017 Mason Alumni finished 2nd or 3rd behind VCU and/or Virginia Tech alumni. Last year with the addition of online giving and out-of-state schools, the big boys from the Big 10 came to play and took the top spots, but Mason reclaimed the top bragging rights for Virginia schools. We know we are #1 in Virginia so let’s do it again this year and see if we can beat the “big boys” like we did in 2006!

With Patriot Pride,

Rob.

Alumni Charity Challenge - Wednesday, September 20 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. @ Hardywood Park Craft Brewery

Alumni Charity Challenge – Wednesday, September 20 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. @ Hardywood Park Craft Brewery

This is 5th annual Alumni Charity Challenge and VCU is doing more than a little smack talking (see t-shirt above).   Mason Alumni embarrassed VCU alumni in 2013 and 2014 on their own turf in Richmond (RVA) by donating nearly twice as much food as all other local alumni chapters combined.  This year VCU alumni want break the 2-2 tie with George Mason and claim the “BEST TEAM” trophy for the 3rd year in a row.  Obviously Mason alumn cannot let that happen.

Help Mason this year by bringing non-perishable donations to Hardywood Brewing from 5:30-8:30pm.  The good news is that for the first time if you cannot bring food to the event, you can donate online until 11:59pm September 20 and help Mason Alumni in Richmond BEAT VCU!  Even our alumni friends in NOVA and beyond can help out!

And while you in the giving mood, take a few minutes to visit Give Mason page and make your annual donation of $25 or more (great habit to get into like changing your batteries in your fire detectors when we change our clocks an hour to spring forward or fall back).

And you do not have to register to attend the event, but we would love to know you are coming!

Looking forward to seeing you on September 20th and with your help, lets BEAT VCU! (and the Hokies, Wahoos, Dukes, Tribe, etc.)

With Patriot Pride,

Rob.

Pregame @ Isley Brewing before Mason @ VCU!

Please join us for pregame gathering with other Mason fans at Isley Brewing Company starting at noon. Isley Brewing Company is located at 1715 Summit Ave, Richmond 23230.  MasonRVA will provide pizza, soda, and water.  If you don’t want to eat pizza, you can purchase some BBQ from the Jus Cukn food truck.  Checkout Isley’s website to see what will be on tap.

We should have Mason swag (and some MasonRVA t-shirts), as well as, RVA Beer Trail Maps and advice on which breweries to visit in the future based on your beer preference.

And after Mason beats VCU, join us just a few blocks away from Isley’s at Ardent Craft Ale’s Beer Garden to celebrate!

There should be plenty of street parking around the brewery so you can plan to either walk (~1.5 mi) or Uber to the game if you do not want to deal w/ traffic and/or parking near the Siegel Center.

In the future when Mason plays VCU or UofR on a Saturday evening in Richmond, MasonRVA will host a brewery tour of RVA breweries for Mason Alumni.   This year the game is at 2pm, so the best we can do is introduce you all to 1 or 2 of our 20+ local breweries.

Hope to see you Saturday and Go Mason!
