Mason Lobbies 2013
I would like encourage all Mason Alumni to take advantage of a rare opportunity to network with fellow alumni, serve your alma mater, participate in the state political process, and mentor current Mason students who will serve and represent us in the future. All in one day!
Last year I participated in the first Mason Lobbies Day and I had no expectations. I figured I would show up for all little while, meet a few alumni and go back to work.
Four hours later, I had:
- talked to our new University President – Dr. Ángel C Cabrera,
- met State Assembly and Senate members who are also Mason Alum including Democratic Party Chair Charniele Herring (B.A. Economics)
- led a small group of alumni and students to meet with our local state representatives in their offices,
- shook hands with the Governor,
- witnessed a session of the General Assembly,
- and met and talked to alumni and current students over lunch in the General Assembly Building.
This year, the Alumni Association is sponsoring a reception the night before Mason Lobbies Day, so even if you cannot take time off work to participate at the State Capitol, the reception is a great opportunity for you to meet university leadership and fellow alumni in Richmond (and you don’t have to drive to Northern Virginia to do it).
Date – 01/29/2014
5:30 pm – 7:00 pm
Don’t miss it! I look forward to meeting you.
All dressed up and no where to go.
Here is the message from Student Government:
“Unfortunately due to the inclement weather expected in Saturday’s forecast we have decided to cancel this portion of the event. We look forward to cheering on the George Mason University Ceremonial Corps as they represent the best of Mason Nation and celebrate the inauguration of Virginia’s next Governor.”
I hope to see everyone at the Mason Lobby Day and Legislative Reception.
Join fellow Mason alumni tonight to pregame and/or watch the Mason vs VCU Men’s Basketball game.
Mason Fife & Drum
Through the great work of GMU’s government relations team, we’ve been invited to march in Saturday’s gubernatorial inauguration parade. Doc Nix along with the fife & drum team will be part of the parade and they need some additional alumni decked out in green & gold to show our Mason spirit.
What: Gubernatorial Inauguration Parade
When: 11 AM this Saturday, Jan 11
Where: Meet near 7th & Grace Streets near Capitol in downtown Richmond. Look for Doc Nix. Parking** will likely be difficult so aim earlier rather than later.
Why: Show our Patriot Pride among Virginia Legislators
Note: Wear your Green & Gold!
Also, save-the-date for our Jan 29 Legislative Reception ahead of Mason Lobbies Day. I will post more about Mason Lobbies Day and why you should not miss it this weekend.
Hope to see you this Saturday,
** I have a parking space in a deck near the Capitol and would be happy to meet you in Bon Air if you would like to ride with me downtown.
Got tickets? With no formal gathering planned I thought we might try to pick a place to meet before the game Thursday night (~5:30 pm). If you have tickets and have any ideas let me know. You can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I will post a location on Thursday morning.
Need tickets? I have two extra if you are interested. Post a reply – Mason Fans Only!
